Krista Kosbab's Drawing won the cover of the
American Kidney Fund's 2003 Calendar

Krista Kosbab Receiving Award

The American Kidney Fund sent me a letter to enter the drawing contest. I hadn't heard of it before, but they get the names of patients through the hospitals and clinics in transplant centers. I go to the U of M in Minneapolis, MN. I had about a month to do the drawing, and once I sent it in, I found out my drawing won the front cover about 5 wks later. From there we knew we were going to Washington DC. The AKF made all of the arrangements, so it was wonderful.

Krista's AwardMy trip to DC was a lot of fun and rewarding. There is so much history to learn that I would like to be able to go back sometime to see and learn more. I really liked the Smithsonian and the Washington Memorial, although I liked everything. I felt very honored to meet such very special people, and I was able to meet several other children with various types of kidney disorders.

Renae, Krista and Steve at the CapitolWhile there, the group of winners and families had a day of organized site visits and had a special recognition dinner. I felt very special. The American Kidney Fund is a wonderful organization, and I am very proud to have been a part of their contest. I hope to go again next year. We didn't get to tour the White House or the Capitol, but we were there on the grounds to get pictures. That was exciting to be right there. This trip was a trip I will always remember.
